Fewer than four months since ACL surgery, former LSU quarterback worked out for NFL personnel during LSU's pro day in Baton Rouge on Wednesday. And he took a page out of and helmet., 15 of the roughly 123 passes the quarterback threw hit the turf.Mettenberger was pleased with the outing.
"It was fun," Mettenberger told NOLA.com. "I've been saying for a couple of weeks now that I'm healthy, and good enough to go, and I don't think all of y'all believed me.
"People think it's pretty remarkable after 13 weeks I'm where I'm at. I did a lot of good things today. But sometimes I hold myself to almost an unrealistic standard. I wasn't too pleased with myself on some throws today. All things considered I thought it was OK, but still a lot of room for improvement."
NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said Mettenberger is at the "top end of the class in arm strength. His arm is as good as Tom Savage from Pitt and Logan Thomas of Virginia Tech. He was accurate and the ball came out well."NFL coaches on handincluded Philadelphia's Chip Kelly, New Orleans' Sean Payton, New York Jets' Rex Ryan, Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin and Minnesota's Mike Zimmer, .
"I thought he did outstanding. Almost miraculous," LSU offensive coordinator . "Thirteen weeks after surgery, to come out here and throw more than a hundred balls and complete 90-plus percent of them. ...
"He was grinding today. We could have come out, made it a nice, easy workout, 50 balls. I've been to a couple of these, guys threw 40 balls and called it a day. But I think arm strength matters, and I think arm endurance matters."
