York County businessman Tom Wolf, who has largely self-funded his campaign in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, has spent more money than all of his competitors together.
According to campaign finance reports filed Tuesday, as of the end of March Wolf has spent more than million in his bid to run against Republican Gov. Tom Corbett in the fall.
His spending which includes .4 million in advertising As of last week, in a Franklin Marshall College poll, Wolf still controlled the race with a double-digit lead over his three Democratic rivals.
His message and introduction has really resonated with voters, said Terry Madonna, F M pollster last week. The one hope that the others have is that there s still a huge percentage of people that haven t made up their mind.
Wolf's rivals U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz ( million spent); state Treasurer Rob McCord (.9m spent); and Katie McGinity (.2m spent), have moved to counter Wolf's early lead. which could swing voters away from Wolf.
According to Madonna's poll, some 46 percent of Democratic poll respondents remained undecided about who they ll vote for in the May 20 primary election.
While Wolf has outspent the rest of the field combined, two of the three other candidates have out-raised Wolf, whose war chest is largely self funded.
Schwartz reported raising .5 million between January and March; McGinity .1 million and McCord 7,000. Wolf reported raising 0,000 during the same period.
Headed into April and with the primary around the corner in May, Wolf continues to have the most cash on hand with million; Schwartz .1 million; McCord .6 million and McGinty, .6 million.
